Fadhel Ben Chaabane appointed co-director of PEPR B-BEST

IFP Energies nouvelles, co-leader of the Bioproductions Priority Research Program and Equipment (PEPR), has announced the appointment of Fadhel Ben Chaabane as co-director of the program. He succeeds Abdelhakim Koudil, whom we warmly thank for his commitment and contribution to structuring the program.

Fadhel Ben Chaabane

Fadhel Ben Chaabane is an engineer and doctor who obtained his HDR (Habilitation à diriger des recherches, or accreditation to supervise research) in 2015 at INP Toulouse. He is a senior project manager at IFP Energies nouvelles. With recognized experience in leading large-scale projects, he participated in the development of the Futurol™ project, which aimed to develop an economically viable process for producing second-generation biofuels, from its initial laboratory phases in 2008 through pilot and demonstration stages to commercialization.

This project gave him “a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the complex challenges involved in biomass conversion,” he explains. His expertise in solving challenges and his ability to mobilize innovative approaches and multidisciplinary teams, as well as his expertise in extrapolating biotechnological processes, are major assets for the management of the PEPR Bioproductions program.

Committed to the scientific community, Fadhel Ben Chaabane has also served on several project evaluation committees for the ANR (French National Research Agency) on the themes of energy and the bioeconomy, and served as vice-chair of the committee a few years ago.

On the occasion of his appointment, he said: "Today, I am honored to take up the position of co-director of the PEPR Bioproductions program. This role represents a unique opportunity for me to put my expertise and experience at the service of a collective ambition: to bring together a multidisciplinary scientific community around the strategic challenges of biomass. I am deeply convinced that this initiative can accelerate progress in the search for breakthrough solutions to transform biomass into biofuels and bio-based products, thereby responding to the environmental and energy challenges of tomorrow. I am enthusiastic about this mission, convinced of its potential to shape a more sustainable future."

The PEPR Bioproductions program continues to pursue its ambition of supporting research to accompany the transition to a more environmentally friendly economy.
