ElectroBOOST: Electrochemical monitoring of the action of biomass-active oxidative enzymes

Fanny SEKSEK

Date: June-July 2025
Duration: 2 months
Home laboratory: Laboratoire BBF (Biodiversité et Biotechologie Fongiques), Marseille, France
Host laboratory: Roland Ludwig's Lab BOKU, Vienna, Austria

The project ElectroBOOST will allow Fanny Seksek, PhD student in the Fungal Biodiversity and Biotechnology Lab (BBF, UMR 1163, INRAE-Aix-Marseille University), supervised by Dr. Bastien Bissaro, to carry out a 2-month mobility in the laboratory of Prof. Roland Ludwig, at BOKU University in Vienna.

The aim of ElectroBOOST is to learn a new innovative electrochemical method, developed by the Austrian team, to monitor in real time the activity of peroxidases and peroxygenases, and in particular that of lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs), which are crucial enzymes in biorefinery processes.

With this new method, a collection of chimera LPMOs (with engineered polymer-binding capacities) will be characterized on complex natural (cellulose) and synthetic (biopolyester) polymers. This project will provide unprecedented insights into the behaviour of LPMOs during heterogenous catalysis.
