Michael O'Donohue appointed co-director of PEPR B-BEST

INRAE, co-leader of the Bioproductions Priority Research Programme and Equipment (PEPR), has announced the appointment of Michael O'Donohue as co-director of the programme. He succeeds Monique Axelos, whom we sincerely thank for her dedication and key role in structuring the programme.

Michael holds a PhD in biochemistry and protein engineering (University of Portsmouth) and is qualified to supervise research (University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne). A researcher at INRAE since 1996, he works at the Toulouse Biotechnology Institute (TBI), a joint INSA–INRAE-CNRS unit, where he conducts research at the interface between enzymology, bioprocesses and bioeconomics.

Highly involved in European dynamics, he is the founder and director of the European IBISBA infrastructure and coordinates several major European projects in the field of industrial biotechnology.

On 1 January 2026, he was appointed Scientific Director of Bioeconomy at INRAE.
