BIOCaP-LCA

Integrated bioeconomy modelling for consecutive and prospective life cycle assessment (LCA)

Winning project of the 2025 call for projects.

OBJECTIVE

The BIOCaP-LCA project aims to develop advanced consequential Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methods to assess the environmental impacts of the bioeconomy transition, from a prospective and system-wide perspective.

APPROACH

BIOCaP-LCA combines LCA with Integrated Assessment and Modeling (IAM) approaches to:

  • Address scale shifts, from product-level to macro-level assessments
  • Integrate temporal dynamics, climate scenarios, and feedback loops
  • Account for biomass competition and land-use-related impacts

IMPACT

The project delivers key methodological tools to support the sustainable deployment of the bioeconomy in France and to position the French research community as a leader in advanced consequential LCA.
